Changing Hosting Companies.Submitted by administrator on Tue, 11/08/2009 - 22:16 |
Well it has become clear that a a business Home Network Solutions Web site design is coming along. Since we now use Drupal as one of our development tools we have been developing a number of new site.
One of these sites has caused us a and our current host a few headaches.
week had an issue with the correct php version need fastcgi enable to bypass the safe mode limitations and to all the running of php5.
They corrected it only for us to find the we could not ftp onto the site to update files
then we lost total ftp access to all site not good but atleast the site where still running.
They corrected it.
We went to backup our database using thr PLesk link to there copy of PHPMYADMIN only to find the password in the link were incorrect. we asked them to correct the plesk credentials.
They change the DATABASE password and took the site down for 3 hours.................
Now we at Home Network Solutions are mild manner people but when a website hosting company does that you seriously have to wonder if they should be in business. I mean all the other problems happen, software fails and configurations get corrupted. But if you don't know a password for a working database on which you customer runs ther website you are hosting. Do you? Would you not as the maintainer to either provide a password or where one can be obtained prior to changing it. Not acording to one of their senior technical support agents (n it may have been consultant but with that mistake he we know its just a title)
Well with that attidude I went in search of a new hosting suppier.
We checked for PHP versions , The core php modules required, we checked the Mysql version. We collect our mail from a catchall address via pop3 to our exchange server. multiple site unlimited bandwidth.
Found the idea candidate - even came with a recommendation for a fellow developer.
They support Windows or Linux servers
IIS or apache 1.3
PHP5.2.6
Mysql5
POP3
looked good on paper transfer the domians across ( very rapid started it saturday completed by monday)
left the current DNS setting until go the site up.
upload drupal checked the server
500 error -
ok try a free install of drupal still the same went to the log files for the server....
...... most of the security features of the htaccess files have to be disabled to allow the site not to error in the logs however those features are required by drupal.
oh well think tec-support wil help
raised a ticket and no reply -- telephone support 9-5:30 !!!!
thought need to change passswords for the pop3 mail download - cannot download mail need to check further found i can onlt delete mail by the web interface !!!!
this is going to RAT @%$£ fast.
come back for the next thrilling episode.. tomorrow.
