In 2004, the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) and their partner the New Economics Foundation (NEF) launched a ground breaking new programme called Local Alchemy. Local Alchemy is all about supporting less prosperous communities in the East Midlands in unlocking the entrepreneurship, initiative and creativity of local people so they can create vibrant, inclusive and sustainable communities.

Since then they have been working with 4 communities in the East Midlands to test out the Local Alchemy concept and the tools and processes, which underpin it. Local Alchemy has been developed in response to this with a focus on finding new and exciting ways of unleashing the potential and skills of local people. Let’s remember that the word ‘economics’ derives from ancient Greek and is concerned with the effective management of household affairs! Local Alchemy is all about demystifying how economics work and helping people realise their ambitions”.

The communities which work with us will get the chance to understand how their economies work, where they are weak and how money flows in and out of their community. Next they’ll be given support to establish what they want to achieve and then get to grips with what they need to do to make new opportunities happen.

Home Network Solutions were fortunate to have been given the opportunity to apply for financial assistance from Local Alchemy during the inception of their newly formed business.
